Personality:
Romulus loves to think of himself as loveable and extremely well-liked by everyone and to a certain extent he’s right, but his outgoing nature has a way of both attracting and repelling people. He’s made many friends and more than a few enemies over the years with his brash personality. Most of those enemies he made when he was younger and more foolish, but even today while he has mellowed out in some ways he is still just as capable of driving some people crazy.
He loves people. He loves throwing and of course attending parties, talking to new people and turning acquaintances into old friends. Most importantly Romulus is a lover. He loves whole-heartedly and has a lot of love to give to many people. In turn he truly loves all his friends, his lovers, his past lovers, but especially his grandsons. His grandsons are his most precious persons of all.
Romulus has been known to be extremely stubborn and often brash, leaping before he looks. He’s never been one for planning things out, preferring to do things spur of the moment. This trait has been the one most often to get him in trouble unfortunately, but he’s managed to survive so far and he isn’t about to change.
Overall he is very boisterous
Pet?: None
Background:
Romulus was born to a pure-blooded family in Italy. His family was very traditional and from an early age he was raised to be a proper gentleman, his parents even arranged a match with a pure-blood girl, and Romulus absolutely hated it. He hated the pressure always on his to be perfect and to live up to their strict standards, longing for freedom and to be able to make his own choices.
When he turned 17 and became of age he left home and began travelling around the world. His family allowed it for a time, thinking he’d go and have his “adventures” and would eventually come back home and settle down. But when a few years went by with no word from him other than muggle postcards his family began to get worried. They promptly sent him a letter reminding him of his fiancé and so he came back home intent on telling them where to stick their arranged marriage, but then he met her.
Maria, his fiancé, was unlike what he had expected. She was elegant, but had a certain aura about her that seemed defiant and most of all she was very beautiful. He decided not to call off the engagement and after spending some time with her they grew closer and quickly more intimate. It was to both the thrill and disdain of their families that it was revealed that she was pregnant. Romulus on the other hand was terrified of being a father at such a young age. Maria, perhaps sensing his urge to flee, convinced him to stay long enough for them to have a quick marriage to save face for both their families. However once that was over with Romulus quickly skipped town, leaving his family’s sizeable inheritance to take care of her and her baby.
For the next decade and then some Romulus had the time of his life, traveling the world, staying in some places for up to a year and others for only a few days. He learned a lot, made great friends and lovers, and greater enemies. He returned home once in a while to check on his wife and child and bring them gifts, but never stayed long for fear of never being able to leave again.
However, things changed when Maria unexpectedly died. Romulus attended the funeral, but was confronted by his son, Constantine, for his behavior. It took this for him to realize that he had never truly taken responsibility for anything and so from that point strove to reconnect with his song, but Constantine wanted nothing to do with him to his dismay. With his son by that point old enough to be out of the house and no wife to return to Romulus went back to traveling, stopping by in Italy to attend his son’s wedding to a nice muggle girl which made him a little proud actually and later to see the baptism of his new grandsons.
Two years later the unthinkable happened; a dark wizard who he had crossed long ago killed his song and his daughter-in-law in their sleep leaving him with sole custody of his 2-year-old grandsons. He couldn’t travel anymore clearly so bought a house in the countryside away from the rest of his family and took to raising his grandsons the best he could (with some hired help of course, he’d never learned how to take care of a house). The loss of his son hit him harder than any other event in his life, but with his death brought him two bright guiding stars.
When his grandsons finally hit age 11 he was upset to see them go and with them out of the house he didn't know what to do with himself. However, during their regular schooling, the position for headmaster at Hogwarts opened up so he decided to try something new and applied for the position. During the later years of his travels Romulus had taken to studying many different branches of magic as well as teaching for free at local magic institutes, whether they had money or not; he just enjoyed dealing with the kids. So, he had experience teaching and dealing with kids. How much harder could it be dealing with university students?
In the end he got the position because of his exuberant personality. That and he actually happens to be a pretty powerful wizard and is good at handling conflicts. Thus when he found out his grandsons had decided to go to Hogwarts for their graduate studies he was thrilled.

It had be an exceedingly long day. He loved his job and he loved teaching, but he no longer was young no matter how he acted and by day’s end he was content to lean back in his chair with a glass of wine and relax. This day had been particularly taxing because Yao had finally tracked him down and forced him to finish the stack of paperwork that had been sitting on his desk for the past semester. He didn’t know there’d be paperwork when he applied for this job.
The smaller Chinese man had babysat him until he’d finished with the last document and sent it off with an owl. Romulus had offered him a drink, but the man had refused, leaving him to stew in his own thoughts with a glass of ruby red in hand. The older he got, the more he found himself reminiscing on the past. He tried to focus on the good, but once in his while when he had perhaps just a bit too much to drink hid thoughts strayed to his son.
His son…
He had been a fool. The biggest fool of a man who didn’t realize that what he had been really searching for throughout his travels had been in Italia all along. He had been searching for love, and while he found plenty of it and gave much more of it away, he had been missing out on the love of a son. By the time he knew what he was missing it had been too late. Constantine had wanted nothing to do with him; he was engaged to a beautiful woman and within a few years she had gotten pregnant, with twins.
That madman, that wizard, he killed them in their own beds without warning. The only reason the children were spared was that they had been staying with an aunt at the time. And it was his fault.
It was all his own fault.
That “madman” was a man whom he had crossed many years past. He had slept with his wife, many times in fact, during a stay in Argentina and so had been challenged to a wizarding duel. Of course he accepted, beating the man soundly and costing him his left thumb. He had no idea that the man would keep such a grudge for so many years. If he had known then he would have killed him on the spot. But he didn’t, and it was his own stupid actions… that cost him the life of his only son and daughter-in-law.
Setting his wine aside and looking down, Romulus wondered why his cheek felt wet. With a hoarse laugh he realized he was crying. He wiped off his eyes and leaned his head back with another chuckle at his own expense.
He really was an old fool.
