((Get your butt in if you are Mei, Toris, Clementine. And anyone else who takes the subject, of course, if I have missed you.))
In the Divination classroom within the North Tower, João was preparing for his Arithmancy class. He had reorganised the classroom since the former professor had left - most notably giving the furnishings a good dust and cleaning the upholstery. The dark-coloured curtains were open, which they had rarely been before, letting in the daylight; he would only shut them when his Divination class required the room to be darkened - something that an Arithmancy class, where the numbers had to be studied carefully, definitely didn't need. At the back of the classroom, behind the desk, he'd also hung a large Old World map... Though this was mostly for his own personal use. Other than that, there was simply a blackboard in front of the desk, facing where the class would sit - etched onto which was the word "ARITHMANCY" in large, bold lettering, as well as a multiplication chart underneath.
Once he was sure everything was in its place, he took his seat behind the desk and watched the top of the staircase, waiting for his students to arrive. He was a little more interested in whom was in the Arithmancy class than those in the Divination class, drawing the conclusion that they would be much more focused and intellectual. The only student he knew to be from his house in this class was Eduard von Bock - whom he noted definitely fit the type needed to pass the subject. Other than that, he was interested to see how well the students from the other houses would prove, too.

Mei was, perhaps unexpectedly, giddy about taking this class. It was sure to be intriguing... the study of numbers and how they predicted the future and other stuff like that, right? Well, whatever. It was a form of Divination, or a sister to it, or related somehow, and therefore, it was bound to be interesting. She couldn't wait to get started. ... She could only hope that the professor was as interesting and interested in the topic as she was. It was no fun when the professors didn't care.
She climbed the ladder to the classroom and looked around curiously, her messenger bag slung over one shoulder. Well, it was certainly brighter and less dusty than she'd heard complaints about in the past. That was good. Another rung or two and she was climbing out of the entryway. "Li ho, Professor." She greeted with a smile once she'd noticed him. "Does it matter where I sit?"

Femke was looking forward to this class, even if it might involve math which she wasn't altogether fond of. Luckily for her the class had more to do with numbers than math, at least she hoped. She wasn't actually 100% sure what this class was about, she just thought she'd try it this year. Now that she was thinking about it though, she hoped it didn't have to do with divination. She'd never been fond of anything predicting the future; whether it was real or not she preferred to believe she made her own choices.
She slowed her walk as she reached the ladder to her classroom. This was where divination was usually taught wasn't it? All of a sudden she wasn't so sure she would enjoy this class, but she'd signed up to take it so she couldn't back down now. Taking a deep breath she resolved herself and climbed up the ladder into the classroom.
Once she was up she looked around and saw Mei and her own head of house as the professor. She'd nearly forgotten about that, maybe he'd give her a break depending on how things go. She didn't hear Mei ask a question so Femke simply waved at the two and went to a seat automatically, setting her bag beside her as she sat down.

Clementine wasn't the biggest admirer of the skill of Arithmancy. She found the calculations to be dull and often questioned the readings she received. However, she had chosen this elective out of her own free will and she was going to make sure she did as well in Arithmancy as she did in any other subject.
Rechecking her schedule to ensure that this was indeed the correct room, she readjusted the textbooks and parchment in her arms before pushing open the heavy door to the classroom. The classroom was bright, or at least brighter than she had remembered it to be in previous years. Blinking a few times in an effort to speed her eye's adjustment, she looked around the room in order to survey it properly. There were only two other students here, she noted, nodding respectfully to the professor seated behind the desk. Hopefully that meant the rest of the class had not arrived yet, either that or it was going to be a very small class.
Taking a seat near the rear of the class and setting out the necessary stationary, she readjusted her skirt to sit more comfortably and waited for the class to start

Natalia entered the classroom as silently possible as she was trained, years of dancing and having to be light on her feet had made the humanly possible. She had signed up for the class because of the skill and history behind the study of Arithmancy and hoped that it would help her further on in her years of living (and perhaps in her personal life with her family). Having everything needed for the class in a small bag that she carried close, clutching to her chest, she noticed that room was filled to a decent size.
Unsure of house affiliations at the moment made her think of where to sit, or if she would know anyone personally, she made an effort to sit in the middle of the room, near a few other female students. With a polite nod and motion of her head and eyes, she sat down in the chair with a stiff back, legs and ankles crossed; kept her eyes darting around the room, noticing any and all exits and potential items to help her. Placing a formal smile of politeness on her face, she remained silently and waited until the professor started or someone else spoke.
Drumming on the desk, with her fingers to quell the quietness in the room.

João nodded with a slight smile in response to each of the students' greetings. They all seemed so quiet and polite... Which was, dare he say it, perfect. He expected this class would run smoothly, then.
"Not at all, there's no seating plan. Take a seat wherever you'd like." He said briefly in response to Mei's question.
That was all the students, right...? He felt perhaps there were one or two missing. Inwardly, he asked his inner eye if that was true, catching a faint glimpse of something more-or-less imageless that confirmed it. But he wasn't going to wait for any latecomers. The sooner he began class, the more those present would learn.
He rose from his seat, and broke the silence with his gentle tone and thick accent. "Good morning, class." The smile on his lips spread further as he approached the blackboard with slightly heavy steps. "For those of you whom I have yet to meet, I am Professor Henriques." He continued, speaking as clearly as he could whilst he turned his back to the students momentarily, writing his name out underneath the "ARITHMANCY" in chalk. When done with that, he turned back towards them. "Before we begin the lesson, are there any questions?"

Mei nodded, and settled into a seat somewhere between Femke and Clementine. Good, she could see the board from here, which would probably be helpful for her in this class. She wasn't certain of her mathematics skills, but what she didn't know already, she was dead-set on learning. She would succeed in this class, and no doubts about it. It was necessary for her... she didn't like failing at anything - she didn't like disappointing her family. Especially her Ya-ya. He was the closest family she had, and she really, really didn't like seeing that look of disappointment on his face. No, thank you.
She carefully retrieved parchment and her pink quill from her bag, then her bottle of ink, and sat them on the table in front of her, then turned her full attention to the board. Professor Henriques... wasn't he Gryffindor's Head of House? That shouldn't matter here. She'd do her best no matter what.

Natalia paid rapt attention to her professor and kept a curious eye on the rest of her other classmates, she noted that they were all female for the most part. She recognized Clementine as her housemate but couldn't not placed the other two and in time she would learn them. The Professor in charge was much different than her other professors and he seemed strict but understandable; it would be a nice change in pace of learning.
Hearing him ask if any of the students had any questions, she paused and tried to think of something. Natalia's mind was coming up with a blank and didn't want to ask a silly question, and made sure to keep her hand down on the desk tapping out a beat. She was average in this class and didn't want to come off as weak.
