Application for "Taiwan"
The Basics:
Nation: Taiwan
Name of Character: Xiao Mei
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Country of origin: China
Blood status: Pure-blood
School:
House: Hufflepuff
Year: Second, but is advanced in some classes.
Job Prospective: Still undecided. Plans to pester her grandfather about it this year.
Subjects: Transfiguration, Arithmancy, Potions, Ancient Studies, Herbology. Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts(On a nearly fifth year level)
Quidditch?: Yes, Seeker
Appearance:
Eyes: Light brown
Hair: Medium brown
Other features: Has a particularly stubborn piece of hair that always falls to the right of her face. She tends to get irritated if people touch it. She also always wears at least one large peony clipped in her hair; quite often, it's two or three. On days she can wear what she wants, she'll always wear a long skirt, and a qipao. It's weird to her, the school uniform showing her arms.
Character Background:
Likes:Tigers, learning things from her Ya-ya, spending time with her Ya-ya, flying, winning, plums, the color pink, peonies.
Dislikes: Snakes, when her Ya-ya doesn't want to spend time with her, studying, bananas, failing at a task. (Lesser known fact: she's terrified of falling.)
Personality: Mei's known for being almost rambunctious, especially when she's in a good mood. She's a loyal friend, and a good listener when necessary, though she'd much rather do the talking. At times, she can be rather loud.
Pet?: An orange cat with dark stripes named Tai.
Background: Mei grew up in China, though her father was Taiwanese. Her mother, Ya-ya's daughter, insisted upon raising the girl near her side of the family. As such, Ya-ya was a big fixture in Mei's life. She listens to him almost better than she listens to anyone else, especially when he's giving advice.
She had a few friends growing up, those of both wizarding and non-wizarding heritage. Her mother called her a social butterfly; that still holds true. Mei is happiest when she's with a group of people. She attended Hogwarts through the entire lower school, thanks to her connection with Ya-ya, and has never once regretted it.
Relations with other characters:
Yao: He's her grandfather, her Ya-ya. She's rather proud of this fact, and will often come to him for advice. She also studies Charms with him over the summer and any time she can convince him to teach her, as well as Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Lovino: Her BFF.
Femke: TBA
Antonio: TBA
Hufflepuffs: they're her housemates. She'd know them at least well enough to carry on conversations.
Others? Probably some sort of relation with Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, and Korea, if not immediately, then at least eventually. PM to work this out.
Sample:
She didn't want to study for Transfiguration. It was too nice to do that. And she was restless. Absently, she twirled that stubborn strand of hair (people had always wondered why the end was the only part of it crimped), and stared at her parchment blankly. An essay on the merits of transfiguring from animate to inanimate? She didn't see much of a merit, unless it was that the animate thing was impossible to catch otherwise. Well, that'd be something, at least. With a sigh, she lifted her quill and began to write, her script elegant and delicate. And loopy. The more loops, the more room, the less she had to write, right? And the sooner she'd finish, so she could go see if Ya-ya would teach her something new. Or just go on a walk with her.
Once she was finished, or as finished as she'd ever be with the essay, she stood, left the Hufflepuff common room, and merrily made her way through the halls toward the infirmary. If Ya-ya wasn't there, he was in his classroom, most likely. And if he wasn't there, well, then, maybe she could find someone to tell her where he was. Regardless, rather than knocking on the door, she just opened it. "Ya-ya! Are you busy?"
